This is one is about appreciation.. All the roads traveled and what it means now. Me & Emily have shared lives, stages & mics (when she lets me!) across different cities, and life stages over nearly 17 years. It’s about having a rock as a person, a positive, life affirming force in your corner… and anyone that does that for you

* My Parents: Still a partnership going strong.. Maisie bought my first guitar in the 90's, and Dad introduced me to Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and The Faces.
* Michael Monk: My first true soul brother and musical partner. We formed a band, played shows on top of petrol stations and spent 20 years together in the pubs having a laugh trying to figure out life
* The Mill Island Band: Great friends, plenty of pints of Guinness, and shared stages against the odds.

I’ve been been playing music since copying Noel Gallaghers solo sets in the mid 90’s. My mum / santa got me a guitar from Harrow Music for Christmas ‘95. I then spent my high school and college years playing along to Oasis, Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene albums of that time as my most useful education. I then learned & copied the bands that influenced them: the Beatles, the Small Faces, Neil Young etc.

I’ve been treading the boards ever since I first played covers at open mics in Southampton with my legendary brother Michael Monk in late 1999.

Since then I’ve been on many stages in many cities and countries, with many talented contemporaries and made many friends. Many days and nights pounding tbe pavement on the London tube & the NYC subway. Lugging gear around, bringing guitars to corporate event jobs in the morning rat race, doing our own sound, playing to no one or a few, paid and non paid, pay to play.. many friends will relate!

I’ve played my own songs, covers, co writes. With Michael in Mahoney, solo in the MySpace years, with Emily in Mahoney & The Moment and beyond.. in pubs, clubs, at festivals, in theatres, on barges, busking in street markets.. the lot

It’s been great play with the fellas of the Mill Island Band the past almost decade, and with the boys and the girls in The Milkshakes. Also to run music nights; Chalk Farm Folk in London or See You Next Tuesday in NYC. Great, average and terrible shows. Lostve sweating, beers, laughs and neurotic behaviour out of nerves.
I’m soon releasing an 11th album of original music with The Mill Island Band.. I’m mixing it right now as well!

I’ve now been lucky to have 17 years playing shows and making music and creating things alongside my life partner. I met Emily at sidewalk cafe NYC in 2010, I’m doing this huge gig as her wingman and support system, and I obviously wouldn’t be doing it without her!

Because I’m primarily a musician & songwriter, I’ve also become a salesman, a compère, a comedian, a podcaster, a (rubbish) sound engineer, an event manager, marketeer and a hustler.. and all of those things are easier. Oh and I’m probably also a dad because of music in some way

It’s good a time as any to say; It’s been a great ride! What else would I have done that was as interesting? Where else would I have met such great life partners and mates?

For me it’s about the congregation with minded folk.. it’s for me where true life happens. We’re expressing ourselves, working our way through something with the best drugs there ever was; music & love.. a thing that can bring us all together.
